I went for a short wander today down Manifold Dale in the Staffordshire part of the Peak District beginning at Hulme End. The route down the Manifold Valley Trail is nice and gentle, before I knew it I had reached my destination of Thor’s Cave. I had an extended lunch break in Thor’s Cave while recording a time lapse so I thought i’d show you around in the video above. After visiting the cave I made my way up the hill to Wetton, then on to Wetton Hill and Ecton Hill where I narrowly avoided a rather large hail storm. All in all it was an excellent short walk of around 4 hours and I would highly recommend that you pay a visit to Thor’s Cave if you haven’t been before.

A great walk! I love that area as I spent a fair bit of time roaming it as child. Did you know you can go into Ecton Mine occasionally? The National Trust have done trips down there for the last couple of years, just one or two each year I think. I mentioned it in this post, with a few photos, when we went down there a couple of years ago. http://roachling.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/hollow-hill.html

Ooh, excellent. Would love to get the chance to head down the mines. I really like that part of the Peak District, even if I do feel like I’m betraying my beloved Derbyshire by crossing over the border in to Staffordshire. Hoping to get myself back to the Roaches again soon too. Thanks for commenting, just about to head over to your site now to check out the link. Dean
